The 5 Rarest Air Jordan 4s

Published: by Jack Aldrich

Designed by the one and only Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 4 is easily one of the most popular Jordan silhouettes of all time. While the model has always been a favourite amongst sneakerheads, in recent years it has burst into the limelight, becoming a popular choice for fashion fans, influencers and celebrities alike. First launched in 1989, the AJ4 shows off a bulky basketball-oriented design, with key features such as winged lace surrounds and a visible Air unit under the midsole helping to define the model.

Over the years we’ve seen plenty of different colourways and collaborations of the Air Jordan 4 hit the market, with many becoming increasingly desirable amongst footwear fans. However, there’s certain pairs out there that are so rare, most sneakerheads won’t even know they exist. We’re here to share the details on some of the world’s most-exclusive Air Jordan 4s of all time, so read on for all you need to know!

OVO x Air Jordan 4 "Splatter" (Sample)

Bearing a striking resemblance to the OG “Bred” colourway, this sample pair of OVO Air Jordan 4s in a “Splatter” colourway is actually based off an original concept sketch from back in 1989. Showing off similar colour-blocking to the Bred pair, the kicks boast splatter details across the midsoles and heel tabs, while iconic Nike Air branding remains on the rear. Brought to life by Drake and team back in 2017, rumour has it that only one pair of these has ever made it onto the market, eventually selling via a Sotheby’s auction in 2020 for $32,760.

Air Jordan 4 "Wahlburgers"

Created specifically for Mark Wahlberg, who is a renowned sneakerhead, the AJ4 “Wahlburgers” was created to commemorate the launch of his Minnesota-based burger restaurant in 2018. The pairs show off a forest-green hue across the uppers, with details including custom tongue branding and ice-blue midsoles. Rumour has it that only 30 pairs of these are in existence, with pairs known to sell for above the $100,000 mark.

Undefeated x Air Jordan 4 "OIive"

Turning back the clock to a time well before most of us were even interested in sneakers, 2005 saw Jordan Brand collaborate with a third-party for the first time ever, with the party in question being LA-based sneaker outpost Undefeated. The duo crafted an effortlessly-clean olive green pair or Air Jordan 4s, producing a grand total of just 72 pairs. Most pairs were raffled off via an in store release, however many were also gifted to friends and family.

Eminem x Carhartt x Air Jordan 4

Next up is one of Eminem’s many ultra-rare efforts created in collaboration with Jordan Brand, however this time around the duo also enlisted the help of workwear brand Carhartt. Crafted from canvas and showing off a black and silver colourway, the sneakers first arrived in 2015 as a friends-and-family exclusive for Eminem’s inner-circle, however later on we saw a total of 10 pairs auctioned off to generate funds for charity. This pair is a serious grail for many sneaker collectors, with pairs known to sell for upwards of $20,000.

Travis Scott x Air Jordan 4 "Friends & Family"

Think you might have your hands on all of Travis Scott’s signature sneakers? Think again, as this ultra-limited F&F variant of the Houston-based rapper’s AJ4 collaboration from 2019 is coming back to haunt you. Gifted exclusively to close friends of Scott’s, the kicks were produced in an unknown number that’s likely to be single digits, with pairs scarcely seen on the resale market and often selling for well into the five-figure realm.
