How Does the Air Jordan 1 Fit? AJ1 Sizing, Styling and More

Published: by Jack Aldrich

Launched in 1985 as Michael Jordan’s first-ever signature sneaker, the Air Jordan 1 is arguably one of the most legendary sneaker designs of all time. Designed by Peter Moore, the kicks boast a retro style throughout and have acted as the blank canvas for hundreds of hyped collaborations over the years, including those with the likes of Off-White, Travis Scott and Dior. Hypebeasts and sneakerheads around the world continue to queue up to get their hands on the latest AJ1 releases, with the drive behind the silhouette showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Here at Crepslocker we stock a vast range of different Air Jordan 1s, however we’re often asked a simple question — just how does the Air Jordan 1 fit? With many different variations and production changing over the years, this can be a difficult question to answer, so we’re here to set the record straight once and for all. Read on for our definitive AJ1 sizing guide, as well as some other frequently asked questions too.

Air Jordan 1 x Dior High and LowHow Does the Air Jordan 1 High Fit?

Often heralded as the “original” Air Jordan 1 (in fact, all three cuts released at the same time), the AJ1 High is easily the most popular height of Jordan 1. It’s played host to some legendary colourways since its introduction in ‘85, with the “Chicago”, “UNC” and “Shattered Backboard” being just a few. As a general rule, it’s safe to take your regular size in the Air Jordan 1 High. Even if you have wide feet, it’s commonly-known that the AJ1 High is generally very accommodating, so should be a comfortable choice for most people.

How Does the Air Jordan 1 Mid Fit?

The Air Jordan 1 Mid is a slightly lower cut version of the high-top variant. While the AJ1 High has nine lace holes, the mid-tops play host to just eight. Alongside this, it’s worth noting that the tongue on the mid-tops showcases a Jumpman logo, as opposed to the Nike Air branding on the highs. The good news is that Air Jordan 1 Mids fit exactly the same as the highs, you can take your regular size here for a comfortable fit.

Air Jordan 1 Low BlueHow Does the Air Jordan 1 Low Fit?

The Air Jordan 1 Low is exactly what you’d expect it to be, a low-top variation of the classic sneaker. There are in fact two versions of the AJ1 Low, with the second referred to as the “Air Jordan 1 Low OG”, offering up a sleeker cut and Nike Air branding on the tongue. While not always popular, the Jordan 1 Low has gained popularity in recent years after it took centre stage in collaborations with both Travis Scott and Dior. In regards to sizing, the Air Jordan 1 Low also fits true to size, so we’d advise taking your usual size for a good fit.

How Does the Air Jordan 1 Fit Compared to Other Nikes?

While some Nike and Jordan models vary in size from each other, the good news is that the Air Jordan 1 follows a standardised fit, meaning it’s in line with many other popular models from the brand. For example, compared to the Air Force 1, the Air Jordan 1 fits almost identical, meaning it’s easy to find your size if you already own an AF1. The Jordan 1 also follows suit compared to other popular Jordan sneakers such as the AJ4 and the AJ3. All of these silhouettes follow the same basis, meaning they fit very similar.

Air Jordan 1 High OG MochaHow to Style the Air Jordan 1?

Although originally designed for performance basketball back in the ‘80s, it’s safe to say that the Air Jordan 1 has fully transcended into a lifestyle sneaker these days. Both fashion fans and sneakerheads hail the sneaker as one of the easiest silhouettes to pair into an outfit, perhaps due to its timeless aesthetics. Here at Crepslocker we’re firm believers that the AJ1 is one of the most versatile sneakers ever made, although it does match with certain trouser styles better than others.

For a solid outfit, we’d recommend pairing the AJ1 with either cargo trousers or straight-fitting jeans. Be sure to take the colourway you’re choosing into consideration here, and perhaps consider matching it with other pieces in your outfit, e.g. your T-shirt or jacket. Otherwise, rocking a pair or Jordan 1s with a well-structured combination of garments is a solid choice!

What Are the Best Air Jordan 1s Ever?

When looking back at the extensive number of AJ1s released over the years it can be hard to pick favourites, but there’s no denying that some pairs are stronger than others. For starters, OG colourways such as the “Chicago Lost & Found” or the “Royal” absolutely hold their own, but there have also been modern takes on OG colour blocking such as 2020’s Air Jordan 1 “Mocha”, or the popular “Court Purple” rendition.

Plus, some of the epic collaborations that have launched since the silhouettes inception need to be taken into account. Luxury brand Dior transformed the AJ1 into a bespoke made masterpiece in 2020, with the collab widely-regarded as one of the craziest Jordan 1s ever made. Let’s not forget when Travis Scott and his Cactus Jack crew reversed the Swoosh on the AJ1 in 2018, sending the sneaker community into a total frenzy.
