How To Style Jordan 1s

Published: by Jack Aldrich

It’s hard to deny just how popular the Air Jordan 1 really is. Nearly 40 years after its inception, the silhouette is still seen on the feet of fashion conscious people around the world, with plenty of brand-new colourways launching each season. First introduced in 1985 as Michael Jordan’s signature sneaker with Nike, the AJ1 was developed for the basketball court, although it quickly transcended into the lifestyle staple that we know it as today. While it’s launched in countless epic renditions over the years (Chicago, Shadow and Royal to name just a few), the model has also acted as the blueprint for some seriously hyped collaborations, pushing the silhouette’s popularity to entirely new heights.

While the model is one of the most in-demand pairs on the market right now, here at Crepslocker we’re still inundated with requests on how one should style the AJ1. So that’s why we’ve decided to put together a foolproof and definitive guide on how to style your Jordan 1s. No matter what your available options are, we’ll help you work the Air Jordan 1 into your outfits with ease. So without further ado, let’s jump right into it and plan some epic outfits!

AJ1 High GeorgetownHighs, Mids or Lows?

First things first, we need to determine exactly the type of Air Jordan 1 we’re working with – as this can drastically affect the way that the sneakers are worked into an outfit. There’s three main types of AJ1, the highs, mids and lows. There are several other variations, for example you can have the AJ1 High Zoom Comfort or the Air Jordan 1 High OG, with the silhouettes varying ever so slightly, however this won’t have any impact on an outfit as a whole. If you’re lucky enough to have a few options to choose from then the possibilities really are limitless, for example we find that low-top Air Jordans are better suited for the summer months, as they pair neatly with shorts. However, if you only own a singular pair of AJ1s, then we’d recommend building your outfit around the pair in question.

If you’re yet to purchase your Air Jordan 1s, then the choice is in your hands! We’d advise thinking about your existing wardrobe and what will pair well with items you already own. Try and picture the pair you’re liking next to some of your pieces and ask yourself if they’ll look good together. Most Jordan 1s are versatile anyway, so don’t stress too much over this.

What’s Your Colourway of Choice?

Another important factor to consider when trying to work your Jordan 1s into an outfit, is what colourway are you working with? Whether you already own a vast collection of AJ1s or you’re looking to buy your first-ever pair, you must consider how the colours will work with the rest of your wardrobe. For example, a bright and vibrant pair such as the J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 may limit your possibilities. A pair of this calibre will act as the centrepiece of the outfit, so you’ll have to downplay the rest of the garments to make it work. Whereas with a timeless colourway such as the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Taxi”, the pair will blend seamlessly into your outfit, making them a lot easier to wear on a day to day basis. If you are shopping for your first pair, perhaps opt for a versatile pair rather than a serious head-turner.

Anyone who’s serious about street fashion will school you on the importance of matching your trousers or pants with your sneakers. It’s the essence of a good streetwear outfit and will make a world of difference. While we say “match”, what we actually mean is to find a pair of bottoms that will accentuate the look of your sneakers, helping to pull the outfit together and create a rounded look. As a general rule, we find that Air Jordan 1s work much better with straight fit or baggy pants. While skinny jeans are an option, the retro aesthetic seen throughout the AJ1 just lends itself better to trousers that possess volume.

We’d suggest cargo pants, sweatpants or even denim jeans to best complement the Air Jordan 1. Of course, shorts work well in the summer months, however as we mentioned earlier we find that the AJ1 Low works much better with shorts.

Rounding Off the Look

So you have your sneakers and trousers sorted, but now you need to add the final touches to your outfit? No dramas, we’ve got you covered. First off, you want to make sure your sneakers are clean and laced well – here at Crepslocker we’re big fans of the loose lace look. Be sure to check out our guide on how to lace Jordans for in-depth advice! Next up, you’re going to want to find a top half that works with your outfit. Think about the silhouettes and how your outfit fits and find a T-shirt that compliments this. Depending on the season you’ll want a mid-layer piece and possibly some outerwear too, so work these into the mix and make sure everything falls into place neatly.

Finally, be sure to accessorise the outfit to your preference. These final touches will round off the outfit and make it feel complete, but be wary not to overdo it as this can look messy. By now you should have the perfect outfit for your Air Jordan 1s! We hope you enjoyed this guide, so stay locked in right here at Crepslocker for more where that came from and while you’re with us, check out the rest of our site for all the latest sneaker news, fashion advice and more!
